A Little Bit About Me

Why I Started Cooking This Way
I started cooking this way after life threw a few unexpected curveballs my way.
When my children developed life-threatening food allergies, our family’s relationship with food changed dramatically. Years later, after struggling with unexplained health issues of my own, I learned I had celiac disease.
For a while, food felt complicated.
We needed meals that worked for our bodies, but I still wanted them to feel comforting, enjoyable, and normal. I didn’t want every meal to feel restrictive or stressful.
So I started learning.
There were plenty of recipe failures along the way. Some healthy substitutions were terrible. Some gluten-free versions tasted like cardboard. Some dinners were met with complete silence from my kids, which is never a great sign.
But slowly, things started improving.
Over time, I learned how to build meals that balance flavor, nourishment, and practicality in a way that actually feels sustainable.
That approach eventually became the foundation of this site.
Before this chapter of life, I earned my Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology and spent several years working in the mental health field.
When my children developed life-threatening food allergies, our family’s needs changed dramatically. I chose to step away from my career so I could stay home with them, and we spent many wonderful years learning together through homeschooling.
Those years also changed the way I cooked.
Learning to prepare meals from scratch wasn’t something I had planned. It simply became one of the ways I cared for my family.
Later, after my own celiac diagnosis, that same kitchen became the place where I learned to create recipes that were both nourishing and genuinely enjoyable to eat.
Although my work today looks very different, my background in psychology continues to shape how I think about caring for people. It taught me that small, sustainable habits often matter more than perfection, and that philosophy naturally carries into every recipe I create.

What You’ll Find Here
I care deeply about creating recipes that are both delicious and supportive of overall wellbeing.
Not “health food” that leaves you hungry an hour later.
Not overly complicated wellness recipes that require expensive specialty ingredients.
Just thoughtfully developed food that tastes wonderful, keeps you satisfied, supports your energy, and fits naturally into everyday life.

A Little More About Me

In real life, I’m a wife, a mom of three, and someone who’s happiest when there’s something bubbling on the stove or cooling on the counter.
One of my favorite parts of this work is recipe testing. I love solving little kitchen puzzles, adjusting ingredients, and figuring out how to make simple food taste really delicious without making it complicated.
If you’ve spent any time browsing the recipes here, you’ve probably noticed that I love meal prep, freezer meals, and recipes that pull double duty throughout the week. That’s because those are the recipes my own family relies on most.
I believe good food should make life easier, not more stressful.
And if a recipe can nourish your family while giving you a little breathing room at the end of a long day, that’s a win in my book.
The People Who Helped Build This Kitchen
Even though you mostly see me here, this blog has truly been a family effort.
My husband, Jon, is my biggest cheerleader. He’s the one washing dishes after a long recipe-testing day, making last-minute grocery runs, and encouraging me to keep going when a recipe needs one more round of testing.
Our three kids have each left their own mark on this little corner of the internet.
Jake has a creative eye and loves music, filmmaking, great soups, and desserts. He’s often the first to notice the little details that make something feel special.
Justin is my most honest taste tester. If something needs another round of testing, he’ll tell me without hesitation. His thoughtful feedback has made countless recipes better.
Hannah is our family’s artist. She illustrated the olive branches you’ll see throughout the website, and if you spot a pair of hands reaching for a cookie or sprinkling herbs over a finished dish, there’s a good chance they’re hers.
My dad and stepmom, Arlene, have been incredible supporters of this journey from the very beginning.
Arlene has an amazing eye for beautiful old things, and many of the vintage props you’ll see throughout my photos came from antique shops she lovingly searched for. My dad has spent countless hours building this website behind the scenes, helping turn a dream into something people can actually visit and enjoy.
Their encouragement, generosity, and steady belief in me have shaped this site just as much as the recipes themselves.
Whether they’ve been taste-testing recipes, lending a creative hand, building the website, hunting for vintage treasures, or quietly encouraging me along the way, they’ve all left their fingerprints on what I’ve created here.
I’m so grateful I get to build it with them—and share it with you.

The Real-Life Side of Cooking
I’m a big believer in meal prep, leftovers, freezer meals, and making life easier for your future self.
If I can make a double batch and save myself effort later in the week, I probably will.
A lot of the recipes here are designed with that in mind because busy people deserve meals that support them, too.
I want these recipes to help take some pressure off.
To make dinner easier.
To help you feel more prepared.
To give you a few reliable meals you can actually look forward to eating.
Because when food is already handled, there’s a little more room for everything else.
A Few Quick Facts
- I cook and bake exclusively gluten-free because I have celiac disease.
- Every recipe is tested multiple times before it’s published.
- Clear instructions matter to me because I want your first try to be successful.
- I’m mindful of how expensive gluten-free ingredients can be and try not to make recipes unnecessarily wasteful.
- I almost always double recipes because future me is always grateful when I do.
- I spent several years eating a fully plant-based diet and now cook a more flexible, mostly plant-forward style.
- I lift weights regularly after a slightly alarming DEXA scan convinced me I probably should. 😂
- My ideal evening involves baking something cozy while watching Dateline. Keith Morrison somehow pulls me in every single time.
- There’s almost always music playing in my kitchen, and Jeff Buckley finds his way onto the playlist more often than anyone else.

Final Thought
Whether you’re cooking around food sensitivities, trying to eat in a way that helps you feel your best, or simply looking for recipes that are both nourishing and enjoyable, there’s a place for you here.
My hope is that this website helps cooking feel a little more approachable, a little more supportive, and a lot less overwhelming.
More than anything, I hope you find recipes that become trusted favorites in your own kitchen.
The kind you come back to on busy weeknights, share with people you love, and think of as “the regular ones.”
I’m really glad you found your way here.
Welcome to my kitchen.
